You May Need A Soil Tester If Your Garden Plants And Flowers Are Under Par



A soil tester is a great asset for any gardener, and is an absolute must if your plants and vegetables are not growing as well as they should.

Soil ph meters and testers are just like having eyes right in the soil, and will allow you to amend ph levels accordingly.

By carrying out regular soil tests you can check for adequate moisture levels, soil temperatures and pH levels of your soil.

Below are three different types currently available, although you will find many others at your local hardware store or garden nursery.

This General Hydroponics GH1514 Ph Control Kit contains ph up which add a little at a time when your nutrient pH is too low in order to raise the pH to the proper level.

Contains pH down which uses food grade phosphoric acid to lower the pH to the proper level and also contains pH test indicator fill a test tube halfway with nutrient, add a few drops of ph test indicator and observe the coloration of the liquid in the test vial. Use 3 drops per 5ml of solution.

This soil tester is straightforward to use and works well. You simply add a little of the water to be tested into the small clear container that comes with the kit. Then add a couple of drops of the pH indicator solution, and check the water color.

If the pH is too high add a few drops per gallon of "pH Down." Alternatively if the pH of your water is too low, add a few drops per gallon of "pH Up."

And even though this particular kit is not as precise as a good qulaity digital pH meter, I haven't had any issues with my garden plants.




Soil PH Meter...

Next we have the Soil PH Meter which is used by professional lawn care companies and nurseries, and although it has a higher price tag is a wonderful choice for keen gardeners who wish to check the pH level in their back garden.

It is straightforward and simple to use. You can test your soil with precision to find out whether you need to modify soil acidity. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14 and is used to indicate acidity and alkalinity.
